learn to love

June 30, 2010

~
Marriage is complex
Honesty and confession
I didn’t know what I was doing
Taking responsibility
I learned how to love
~
I’ve given a lot of thought
Looking back at my story
I stand outside myself
Look down at my dilemma
Muse, ponder, and remember
~
I found a new path
And help along the way
From those who were living free
Seek and you will find
~
Intimate presence
A woman who likes herself
Even in her weaknesses
Reflects a real joy
Is able to live the day
Peaceful, kind, transparent
~
I know a woman like that
Been married forty-five years
Complex but very simple
Brilliant but approachable
~
Rejoice in the day
She is able to do it
Regardless of me
~
Intense suffering
Along with desperate prayer
You’ll find peace
A window of hope opens
To a love larger than life

Souls refined

June 22, 2010

~
Life’s pain is like a furnace
The soul is refined by fire
Hope is born in the process
Joy is discovered

Those of us who know the pain
Who still live in it today
Can listen and understand
And offer new hope

Focus

June 17, 2010

~
If you will focus on God
Learning about His story
His powerful love will come
His promise renews
~
Your focus can be yourself
Or it can be on your god
Only God can deliver
And heal massive hurt
~
When I rise I will focus
On listening to God’s love
I am made in His image
His love never fails

Space

June 13, 2010

~
Children need their space
Room to make their own mistakes
Where it’s safe to fail
~
Letting go is hard
You’ll need wisdom and power
A daily practice
~
Let go of the reigns slowly
But you must learn to let go
You’ll decide if you believe
That God is loving
~
Your message must be
I believe in you today
My love will always be there
You have room to fail
You don’t have to be perfect
I will love you regardless
~
Remember the daily practice
God is eager to teach you
He will come if you will ask
Do you believe this
~
Peace will come from God
It is not the children’s job
To give that to you each day
That you must discern
Set your boundaries clearly
Then trust God and laugh a lot

examined soul

June 9, 2010

~
Love beyond measure
Revealed in the life of a man
Needs to be examined

His words are flawless
They are filled with compassion
Bringing peace to the broken
Lonely and oppressed
A love that’s demonstrated

No one can compare
With the brilliance of his life
He knew how to think and love
The scholars marveled
The religious were tied in knots
The children ran to meet him

An examined soul
One that’s both loved and hated
One that seeks justice
One that seeks mercy for those
Made in the image of God
