I Believe

“I believe in
Christ,
like I believe
the
sun
not because
I can see it,
but by it
I can see
everything”
     C. S. Lewis

*

Understanding leads to life
Knowledge will help get you there
Seeking with all of your heart
Will let the light come
Proverbs 21:16

*

I know what to seek
It is righteousness and love
It leads to prosperity
With life and honor
Relationships will flourish
Real friendships are developed
Proverbs 21:21

*

The word righteousness is not self-righteousness but it is the commitment to the best interest of the other person and justice for all.The book of Proverbs has fathered me giving counsel and insight into love, money, sex and power.

*

Victory will come
Accessing a private time
Wisdom will be discovered
In stillness I come
Waiting with expectation
For the healing light of love
Proverbs 21:31

~
His tongue brings healing
The fruit of the tree brings life
Deceitful words crush

The lips of the wise
Spread knowledge and bring real hope
Pursue righteousness
You will find how loved you are
What delight in you God has

A cheerful heart celebrates
Sees the beauty, finds the hope
She cannot be defeated
Love’s at the center

A man of understanding
Listens with great compassion
Seeks counsel for direction
Then obeys the Lord

His path will be straight
Find joy in giving true words
A timely reply

Her path leads upward
He’ll climb every mountain
Joy will lead the way
Courage, wisdom and compassion
Death itself will be destroyed

The Lord listens to prayers
Those who seek with all their heart
Revere the Lord above all
Joy will fill your heart

How much better to get wisdom than gold, understanding rather than silver! Proverbs 16:16

Dedicated to my granddaughter Maia, on her ninth birthday

my quest

September 6, 2010

~
A train wreck, then a crisis
Each day on television
Lives shattered, then a movie
That tells it again
~
We keep telling the story
Feed our minds with the same things
Doing the same things over
Hoping things will change
~
When will we stop and listen
Seek understanding and peace
From the One who can give it
Divine intervention
~
You say, I don’t believe it
Can life be different
The cycle keeps repeating
There is nothing new
~
I beg to differ
As one who was handed death
Loneliness and despair
Abandoned by mother
A father who had no hope
A life traveling in darkness
~
I engaged my mind
Read ancient proverbs each day
Looked for those who were living
Studied history
I sought out understanding
From those who wanted to live
~
Poetry read in the Psalms
Of a king who failed in life
Murdered, stole, and filled with lust
Was restored to joy
~
You say it can’t be
It is not real, it’s a crutch
That’s the way you see
There may be information
Outside the box of your world
~
No one escapes pain
We all “get it in the neck”
I’ll choose how I will respond
A gift that we have
Otherwise I am a robot
I discovered I can think
~
I want to know who speaks
To the deepest hurt I have
That has been my quest so long
A longing fulfilled
~
Yes, there is real hope
Delightful inheritance
Bigger than the grave
~
A spirit world does exist
It will take your best thinking
To not react but inform
Be responsible
~
I experience true love
Not just in the spirit world
The Proverbs have fathered me
Psalms have mothered me
~
Strange combination
A secret that I have found
Two kings led with failure
Recovered with hope
Advice born out of real life
So very similar to mine
~
Psalms and Proverbs
Please meditate on these words
Each person chooses
The path that they are taking
It is the freedom we have
~
Darkness was turned into light
Help came flooding to my soul
I have found a “spacious place”
In early morning
~
Even if it cost all you have
Get understanding for life
Embrace wisdom and find honor
Joy for the journey

sweetness to the soul

August 24, 2009

~

There is something sweet

A gift to all who will ask

It is called wisdom

It is sweetness to the soul

It connects knowledge with life

It gives timing and rhythm

To relationships

Another word for wisdom

Is “insight” into your soul

Understanding is the key

Respect for yourself

I cannot give to others

What I do not have in me

I will seek to gain knowledge

How to live in peace

When I look to other

To find that peace and resting

I find it always eludes

They are just like me

Each looking to get

Something they do not have

Looking for the other one

To give them that love

Both discover emptiness

Disillusioned and hurting

You do have a gift

A treasure that’s within you

Rise up and seek it

You must take courage

Find the fire that’s within you

Do not make friends with your pain

You decide to live

Be responsible for you

And give with no strings attached

You are bigger than your pain

It’s a mystery I know

I lived in desperation

Found peace in the pain

I have learned that honesty

With myself and all others

Gives a transparency and

Good conversation

These reflections came out of my response to ancient Proverbs 24Over the  years, I have found myself in “conversation” with King Solomon, the author of the book of Proverbs.

“Know also that wisdom is sweet to your soul; and your hope will not be cut off.”

“An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.”

seek wisdom

July 9, 2009

~

Educate yourself

Your responsibility

To use your mind well

You can be real smart

And ignorant at the same time

Information helps

True information, that is

Every human can see

Given safety and good time

You’ll figure life out

There will come a time

In the life of all of us

You will know if you got it

Looking back you’ll see

The decisions that you made

Were right for you or wrong

So I hope you’ll look ahead

Seek wisdom with all your heart

Make insight your greatest goal

Read ancient Proverbs

Today I will celebrate

Sixty-seven years of life

I am still learning a lot

Surprised by the joy
